 Growing up in Saskatchewan
I was born in Candiac, Saskatchewan on the Johnston Family farm, 70 miles south east of Regina.
I remember fun times growing up on the farm with a large family that included five older brothers, two older sisters and one younger sister.
After high school, I worked on numerous pipelines in Northern B.C. and several in Alberta.
Marriage and Real Estate
I met my future wife, Ann Kreminski in Wildwood, Alberta, 70 miles west of Edmonton. After we married, Ann, who was working at a real estate office at the time, suggested that I quit the pipeline and try real estate. Ann felt that I could excel in this field of business. I started with H.R. Kellough Real Estate December 4, 1963 and later was a realtor with Buxton Real Estate for 11 years.
 K.W. Johnston Real Estate and Coldwell Banker Johnston Real Estate
In 1975 Ann and I started K.W. Johnston Real Estate Ltd and franchised with Coldwell Banker in 1993. As the Company's Real Estate Broker, I have been very proud of the success we have achieved over the years. We were one of the earliest real estate companies to implement computer systems in 1983.
All three of our boys have worked in our office at various different times. To avoid being called Dad and Mother in an office setting, one day I suggested I should be called Mr. J. and Ann would be referred to as Mrs. J. Our family and many of our clients now call us and know us by Mr. J. and Mrs. J. today.
I am happy to announce these days that Sara is implementing new internet and software systems, moving our company in a high-tech direction. Sheldon continues to do what he loves best: working with people and selling real estate. Both are in the process of continuing the Company Ann and I started.
Favorite hobbies
My favourite hobbies include: golfing, walking, hiking, and curling. I enjoy watching sports, especially hockey and football. I quarterbacked football during my high school years even though I broke my leg at age 5.
 Vacation Favorites
Our favourite vacation areas are Fairmont Hot Springs and Waikiki, Hawaii where we enjoy daily, lengthy walks.
Our family enjoyed many years of holiday trailoring to White Rock, B.C., Fairmont, B.C., Jasper and The Coal Branch. We have visited coast to coast of Canada, many U.S. spots and vacationed in Mexico.
Ann and I travel yearly to my home town of Glenavon to attend the yearly Glenavon Fair. We love reminiscing with old friends and meeting new people as well.
Rotary International
I was involved with Rotary International service organization for 18 years and in 1994 represented Rotary West Edmonton Club as President in Taipei, China. From there, we vacationed in Beijing, Xian, Guilin and Hong Kong.
